BLUE FRONT SHIBAURA in Shibaura, Minato City, is a large-scale mixed-use complex created through a joint redevelopment project of the Hamamatsucho Building (formerly the Toshiba Headquarters Building) by Nomura Real Estate Development and JR East. This magnificent project involves constructing twin towers approximately 230 meters high on a vast site with an area of about 4.7 hectares and a total floor area of roughly 550,000 square meters. As a first step, the first building on the south side, "TOWER S," opened on September 1, 2025. Housing offices, a hotel, and commercial shops, this place aims to be a "connecting town" linking the city and nature, as well as the bay area and central Tokyo. This time, we will introduce the appeal of "BLUE FRONT SHIBAURA," focusing on the public spaces and commercial areas of "TOWER S" that are open to the general public.

Exiting the South Exit of Hamamatsucho Station (JR and Monorail), you will find the "GREEN WALK" adorned with about 200 plants. This walkway not only connects the station and the facility but also serves as a pleasant resting place with its green approach extending north to south. Although we visited on a weekday, we saw office workers passing by as well as people resting on benches. Along the street, there are three dining establishments: a cafe, an Italian restaurant, and an American dining spot.

Proceeding along the "GREEN WALK," you will see "TOWER S," the first of the twin towers on the south side. Standing next to it is the "Hamamatsucho Building," which was a symbol of this area. Demolition of the Hamamatsucho Building has begun in preparation for the construction of the second tower, "TOWER N" (scheduled for completion in fiscal 2030) (as of November 2025). This scenery of new and old buildings standing side by side may be a precious sight unique to this transitional period of the city's rebirth.

Since the "GREEN WALK" runs parallel to the JR tracks and the Tokyo Monorail track beam, one of its attractions is the ability to see passing Shinkansen trains and the monorail up close. At night, the walkway is illuminated, showing a different face from the daytime. Incidentally, part of the electricity used for the illumination is covered by a "green hydrogen power generation system." This eco-friendly system uses electricity from solar power generation to decompose water and store it as hydrogen. It then generates electricity from the hydrogen when needed to supply power to lighting and shared outlets.

You can go directly to the first floor of "TOWER S" from the "GREEN WALK" through a green path. The commercial area on the lower floors and exterior of "TOWER S" is themed as a "town community hub," gathering about 30 stores, mainly restaurants. Designed not just as a place to eat but as a public space, it allows everyone to spend a comfortable time according to their mood of the day.

The main area on the 1st floor is the "GREEN DINING HALL," an all-day dining space where you can relax and spend your time as you please in a space wrapped in soothing greenery. The moment you step in, you will be surprised by the abundance of greenery. It feels as if you have wandered into a jungle. Here, six distinct shops line up, including specialty stores for omusubi (rice balls) and salads, soup curry, and an Italian bar.

The hall, with approximately 350 seats, is characterized by being divided into three areas according to usage. In the "PARK" area, bringing in food and drinks is allowed. It is a place where office users and local residents can spend time freely from morning to night, focusing on work or study, or enjoying chatting with friends. The "HOUSE" area functions as restaurant seating all day long. The "RESORT" area allows outside food and non-dining use until 5:00 PM, and after 5:00 PM, it switches to restaurant seating where you can enjoy the menu from the adjacent "HOUSE" area stores.

A corner of the "GREEN DINING HALL" serves as a conceptual pop-up area, hosting not only exhibitions and sales but also hands-on events and workshops. At the time of our visit (November 2025), a furniture exhibition and sale by a construction company from Yokohama City was being held.

Exiting the ""GREEN DINING HALL"" towards Tamachi Station leads to an open space. In ""South Plaza,"" which is also the entrance to ""TOWER S,"" circular benches are arranged so anyone can sit and rest freely. Events that contribute to revitalizing the town are also held regularly. From Friday, December 5th to Thursday, December 25th, an ""experiential illumination event playing in the light: BLUE FRONT CHRISTMAS 2025"" is scheduled, featuring a Christmas tree and illuminations (*Illumination will be lit until January 18, 2026). A Christmas tree using a real fir tree will also appear in the center of the plaza. A Christmas moment wrapped in fantastical light will surely become a special memory.

Going up to the 2nd floor by escalator, you will find the "CANAL DINING HALL" with the concept of "Waterfront and Wind." There are about 410 shared seats. Counter seats, sofas, and terrace seats are available for everyone. There are 8 stores offering yakitori, soba, Thai cuisine, and more. Ordering is done via a mobile order system by scanning a QR code. You can order dishes from multiple stores at once while staying at your seat.

Not only dining but also working or studying is allowed. It seems like lively conversations among friends will blossom here. It has become a place where people can freely interact, much like a social gathering spot.

Public art scattered throughout the building is also a highlight. Looking up at the ceiling of the "CANAL DINING HALL," a giant zipper-like artwork titled "Opening Infinity" was displayed. Created by artist Yasuhiro Suzuki, it expresses a zipper connecting the two towers drawing an "infinity (∞)" symbol. If you look closely, you can find elements shaped like "BLUE FRONT SHIBAURA" mixed into the countless elements that make up the zipper. Please try to find them.

Until 5:00 PM, it operates in a food court style, and after 5:00 PM, it switches to a restaurant style served by staff, transforming into a space where you can enjoy a leisurely meal. You can use it casually during the day and a bit luxuriously at night, depending on your mood.

The 230 terrace seats face the Shibaura Canal, allowing you to spend time as you wish while feeling the refreshing breeze. Pets are also allowed on these terrace seats.

The terrace seats are also directly connected to the "BLUE FRONT SHIBAURA PIER" on the Shibaura Canal. Cruise ships currently depart from and arrive at the pier for limited events. Also, an original boat is scheduled to start operation in the spring of 2026. It is planned to offer luxury services in collaboration with the hotel "Fairmont Tokyo."

On the 2nd floor, there is also a "RESTAURANTS" zone with 9 stores, featuring a variety of genres such as ramen, sushi, Okinawan cuisine, and Chinese cuisine. There is also a "HubSpace" available for anyone to use, which is perfect for resting between meals or meeting up.

The "RESTAURANTS" zone also houses a craft beer brewery, "SIBAURA BREWING." Here, beer is brewed using high-quality natural blessings. You can enjoy the finished beer at "DRINK STAND 1-1-1." True to the concept of "Drinking the Sky, Drinking the Sea," a glass enjoyed in the open "CANAL DINING HALL" is exceptional.

The office entrance lobby adjacent to the commercial area on the 2nd floor features walls with flowing water and trees, creating an atmosphere that evokes the tranquility of nature.

In the office lobby on the 3rd floor, a large oil painting was particularly eye-catching. The series of five paintings titled "Ring of Light" by artist Shingo Francis has an impressive size of 2.6m x 2.6m each. It symbolizes the circulation of energy through a circle based on the Five Elements theory and is depicted as an entity connecting the city, nature, and people.

The walls of the "CANAL LOUNGE," a lounge exclusively for building tenants, use wood from "Tsunagu Mori" (Connecting Forest) owned by the Nomura Real Estate Group in Okutama, creating a space that is environmentally friendly and warm.

The common area on the 3rd floor is fully equipped with a convenience store, a cafe, and a shared office. A "Community Space" where you can spend time freely is also attached.

BLUE FRONT SHIBAURA, which has started as the new face of Shibaura, is a place creating a new lifestyle unique to the waterfront. Terraces where you can feel the breeze, dining filled with greenery, and art that stimulates the senses. All of these harmonize to offer a pleasant time to visitors.
